MANILA — The “ultimate victory” for Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla is to make his office “obsolete” with society strongly rejecting corruption.Remulla made the remarks at the graduation of the first batch of the Ombudsman’s Legal Internship Program.“The ultimate victory, as I always said before, is that we will render ourselves obsolete na hindi na kailangan ang Ombudsman later on because the culture is very strong. When people know that it&#x27;s not alright to be corrupt, ‘di ba? Hindi siya alright, hindi siya okay. Hindi siya dapat tino-tolerate, hindi siya tinutularan,” the Ombudsman told the internship graduates.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/17/ombudsman-to-review-2019-sea-games-files-1436">Ombudsman to review 2019 SEA Games files </a></div>The Office of the Ombudsman is tasked with investigating and prosecuting corruption in government, including by public officials who allegedly involved in the flood control anomaly.For Remulla, he does not view his office as a “savior.”“Hindi tayo pwedeng mabalandra dahil may mga taong maiitim ang balak. It’s not that we want to become the saviors of this country but the fact that we do our job should be enough to make this country move forward,” he said.The Ombudsman believes young Filipinos have a “decisive role” in addressing the country’s corruption.“We are at the crossroads of finding our identities of Filipinos. Ito bang korapsyon na ito, maaayos ba natin ito? Magkakaroon ba tayo ng leksyon? Magbabago ba ang ating bansa? O ganito na lang ba pang habang panahon ang ating lupang hinirang?” he asked.“When we opened our doors here, it was because we know that it&#x27;s going to be the young people who will actually matter in this fight against corruption,” he said before the intern graduates.The 40 interns from various law schools had a three-week internship program, embarking on activities such as fact-finding and case buildup and case prosecution at the Sandiganbayan.
