MANILA -- President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. met with Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar during a courtesy call at Malacañang on Thursday, July 23, as the two leaders reaffirmed the elevated ties between the Philippines and India.  The said meeting also upholds the two countries’ commitment to ‘expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest while advancing regional peace, stability and prosperity,’ according to the Presidential Communications Office.The Indian official is in the Philippines for the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.  <div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/23/trump-wants-to-attend-asean-summit-in-manila-in-november-rubio-says-2159">Trump wants to attend ASEAN Summit in Manila in November, Rubio says </a> </div>In a separate social media post, Jaishankar said he conveyed to Marcos Jr. the greetings of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India’s support for the Philippines&#x27; successful chairship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year. He also took note that the Philippine-India cooperation under its strategic partnership “continues to diversify as we implement the India-Philippines Plan of Action 2025–2029.” In August 2025, the Philippines and India moved to deepen their seven-decade bilateral relations through a strategic partnership as announced during Marcos Jr.’s state visit to India.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/21/asean-foreign-ministers-gravely-concerned-over-renewed-hostilities-in-middle-east-1505">ASEAN foreign ministers &#x27;gravely concerned&#x27; over &#x27;renewed hostilities&#x27; in Middle East </a> </div>India is regarded among the world’s largest economies and became only the fifth strategic partner for the Philippines.
