<p>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wants a “reset” in the relations between Philippines and China after a recent confrontation in the Ayungin Shoal <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/20/ph-navy-officer-sustains-head-injury-after-confrontation-with-china-coast-guard-1605">left at least one Filipino sailor wounded</a>, Malacañang said on Thursday.</p><p>The Palace gave the statement after Marcos summoned Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan to discuss the Manila’s continuing qualms against Beijing’s expansionist policy that has encroached on the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone.</p><p>“Nag-usap sila at ang nais na mangyari dito ng Pangulo ay hindi na maulit ang mga pangyayari at ma-reset sana ang relasyon ng China sa Pilipinas,” Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro told Palace reporters.</p><p>“Kung ano man ang issue ng China at Pilipinas, gusto niya magkaroon ng reset sa issue na yun,” she said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/22/pgc-calls-china-coast-guard-attempt-to-block-medevac-act-of-barbarism-1521">PGC calls China Coast Guard attempt to block medevac &#x27;act of barbarism&#x27; </a></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FabscbnNEWS%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0qvktAATenBtLJhRi7i2tWrnsYSmu2z41jiDQWzGMdLfX3JfQ5GVe4QxheF5Vqsmcl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500" width="500" height="250" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><p>The Palace’s statement follows Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro’s repeated criticism against Beijing and its supposed “deficit of trust” when it comes to adhering to international law.</p><p>Teodoro’s opinion should be treated differently from the President’s pronouncements, Castro said.</p><p>“Once the President talks to the representative of another country, hindi niya pwede sabihin na, ‘Hindi ako makikipag-usap sa iyo kasi sinungaling ka,’” the Undersecretary said.</p><p>“Iba ang estado ng Pangulo, iba ang estado ng defense secretary,” she said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/22/philippines-clash-has-not-changed-south-china-sea-code-hopes-chinese-envoy-0820">Philippines clash &#x27;has not changed&#x27; South China Sea code hopes: Chinese envoy </a></div><p>Marcos’ meeting with Jing ended cordially after an hour and 20 minutes, Castro said.</p><p>“Pagkatapos, nakangiti naman si ambassador at pagkita nakin sa pangulo… positibo na rin,” she said.</p><p>“We should always have good faith.
