<p>MANILA— US President Donald Trump wants to attend the ASEAN Leaders&#x27; Summit in Manila this coming November, according to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.</p><p>Rubio represented the US in the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conferences, where some of the world&#x27;s top diplomats convened.</p><p>&quot;I think he&#x27;d like to. I don&#x27;t know what the schedule looks like. You know, yeah, I can&#x27;t commit him to that trip because I don&#x27;t control his schedule,&quot; Rubio said.</p><p>&quot;But he was there last year, and I think that&#x27;s something that we&#x27;re going to talk about. It&#x27;s an important forum. And I think APEC is a few days after,&quot; he added.</p><p>Trump visited the Philippines in 2017, where he met then President Rodrigo Duterte as part of the ASEAN summit.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/world/2026/7/23/rubio-says-at-asean-meeting-he-expects-positive-us-visit-by-china-s-xi-0117"><strong>Rubio says at ASEAN meeting he expects &#x27;positive&#x27; US visit by China&#x27;s Xi </strong></a> </div><p>Philippines is hosting the ASEAN Summit in 2026, before passing the baton to Singapore next year.</p><div><strong>PHONE CALL WITH MARCOS</strong></div><p>President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Thursday night, where the two leaders discussed the current global, economic, and security situation. </p><p>The phone conversation was an offshoot of the meeting between Marcos and US State Secretary Marco Rubio at Malacañang on Wednesday.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/21/us-secretary-of-state-marco-rubio-arrives-in-ph-to-attend-asean-meetings-1614"><strong>US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrives in PH to attend ASEAN meetings</strong></a></div><p>In that meeting, Marcos updated Rubio on the recent incidents in the South China Sea.</p><p>The Palace said Trump assured Marcos that &quot;he will take up the concerns of the Philippines in his next meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.&quot;</p>
