Senate, CA resources take a hit from Sara Duterte trial

MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte&#x27;s impeachment trial consumes both the time and resources of the Senate and has affected even the Commission on Appointments that works in the Senate&#x27;s premises.Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian disclosed that the requirements of the ongoing impeachment trial has left them with only two committee hearing venues even if they don&#x27;t charge for the use of facilities and utilities.&quot;Ang constraint lang namin ngayon yung, yung kwarto.Kasi ang Senate maliit lang eh. So, binigay na namin almost 10 rooms to the prosecution, to the defense, as well as to, yung external media. Plus  may mga waiting rooms pa doon,&quot; he said.&quot;So ang natitira na lang sa amin is  two rooms. Just to give additional information.Yung mga rooms ang binigay namin free of charge yun . So aircon, kuryente, Wi-Fi, tubig,  libre yun. yung dalawang rooms na lang ang pwede nating gamitin for committee,&quot; he added.There is still no schedule or venue for the Commission on Appointments, which is normally held on Wednesdays. &quot;It&#x27;s another problem rin kasi kung maghi-hearing dito ng committee ng Thursday, wala namang CA room na. So iniisip namin baka, to in-- CA will inform the committees in advance. So pag hearing dito, diretso plenary. Pero in the meantime, yung mga committees sa PICC na muna,&quot; Gatchalian said.This compelled the Senate to lease venues in the nearby Philippine International Convention Center so it can still go about its regular legislative work.
