The Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, resumed the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to hear National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag testify on Article IV of the Articles of Impeachment, which covers the alleged grave threats against President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
Lead House prosecutor Rep. Gerville Luistro presented Matibag before the impeachment court to testify on the ongoing investigation of the NBI Special Task Force formed to look into the threat against the President and the statements issued by Vice President Sara Duterte.

QUEZON CITY – The House prosecution panel is prepared to adjust its presentation of evidence if the Senate Impeachment Court orders Vice President Sara Duterte&#x27;s camp to present its witnesses first on the impeachment article involving her alleged threats, prosecution spokesperson Terry Ridon said on Saturday.Speaking at a news forum, Ridon said the panel has received information that the impeachment court is considering allowing the defense to immediately present its evidence on the threats article instead of waiting for the prosecution to finish presenting all of its impeachment articles.“Meron po kaming naririnig, bagamat hindi po ito opisyal, na pinag-iisipan din po ng Senate Impeachment Court na isalang na rin ’yung paglalahad ng depensa ng kanila pong presentasyon ng ebidensya patungkol sa article on threats,” Ridon said.Despite the possible change in the order of proceedings, Ridon said the prosecution would abide by whatever the impeachment court decides.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/25/defense-weighing-proposal-to-present-witnesses-first-in-duterte-impeachment-trial-0946">Defense weighing proposal to alternate presentation of witnesses, evidence in impeachment trial</a></div>“We have no hard feelings about it.
