Martin Romualdez was not rushed in time for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said.</div><p>The Ombudsman’s investigators have filed a supplemental complaint for a<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/24/ombudsman-seeks-preliminary-probe-vs-romualdez-co-for-plunder-money-laundering-1240"> preliminary probe</a> against former House Speaker Romualdez and former congressman Zaldy Co for plunder, graft, bribery, and money laundering in relation to funds for flood control projects.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/27/-hindi-siya-titigil-dizon-says-marcos-to-highlight-continued-anti-corruption-campaign-in-sona-0908">&#x27;Hindi siya titigil&#x27;: Dizon says Marcos to highlight continued anti-corruption campaign in SONA</a></div><p>On ANC’s Headstart, Dizon was asked for his comment on speculations that the Ombudsman just filed the complaint so the President could announce it as his accomplishment in his fifth SONA.</p><p>“November [last year] pa lang, nag-file na po kami ng referral, recommending charges of plunder, bribery, and other crimes against the former Speaker and former congressman Zaldy Co,” Dizon said.</p><p>“Hindi totoo na last week lang ‘yan. Matagal nang umaandar ‘yang prosesong ‘yan pero paulit-ulit sinasabi ng ating pangulo at ng ating Ombudsman, kailangan i-build up ang ebidensya. Hindi pupwedeng magpa-file lang ng kung ano-anong kaso lang. Kailangan matibay ang ebidensya,” he explained.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/27/solving-corruption-economic-woes-expected-to-shape-marcos-final-two-years-0600">SONA 2026: Solving corruption and economic woes expected to shape Marcos&#x27; final two years</a></div><p>Dizon believes Marcos will stick to his word that individuals, regardless if those are family or friends, will be arrested if proven that they are involved in the flood control anomalies.</p><p>“Malakas ang aking tiwala sa ating pangulo na ‘yung sinabi niyang wherever the evidence leads, kahit sino pa ‘yan, du’n tayo tutumbok at du’n tayo pupunta,” the Public Works chief said.</p><p>Romualdez’s camp earlier said that he is ready to face the complaint against him.
