RTVM screenshot</div>DAVAO (UPDATED) -- A day after delivering his <a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/27/from-his-cousin-to-the-community-of-nations-highlights-from-marcos-jr-s-5th-sona-2244">fifth State of the Nation Address</a>, President Bongbong Marcos Jr headed to the Duterte stronghold of Davao for a series of engagements.He visited the provincial hospital and distributed free rice and scholarships in Davao de Oro, and inspected the social housing program People&#x27;s Ville in Davao City.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/7/28/marcos-visits-people-s-ville-in-davao-city-1756" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">READ: Marcos visits People&#x27;s Ville in Davao City</a></div>Davao de Oro governor Raul Mabanglo thanked Marcos for his visit.&quot;Your visit is a powerful message that the national government sees Davao de Oro. Nakikita nyo po ang Davao de Oro, naririnig nyo po ang Davao de Oro,&quot; Mabanglo said.Citing his experience in local government, Marcos highlighted the importance of coordination between the national government and LGU for the effective delivery of programs.&quot;Lagi ko nga sinasabi, kung hindi magtrabaho ng mabuti, kung hindi tumutulong sa national government ang local government, kahit gaano kaganda ang serbisyo na binibigay, kahit gaano kaganda ang benepisyo, pag di maganda ugnayan sa local government, di rin mararamdaman ng tao ang serbisyong yan,&quot; Marcos said.&quot;Ang pananaw namin, ang local government, partner talaga ng national government,&quot; he added.Marcos was warmly welcomed in Davao de Oro, despite it being part of a broader region known for its solid support to the Duterte family.<a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/28/vp-duterte-calls-marcos-sona-a-waste-of-time-cites-broken-vows-0754">Vice President Sara Duterte had called Marcos&#x27; SONA a &quot;waste of time&quot;</a> and accused the administration of failing to deliver on key pledges.The President also addressed the scholars.&quot;Sana sa susunod nating pagkikita, may diploma na kayo,&quot; he said.The Bawat Bayan Makikinabang is an event held by the President to assist local governments in the implementation of its programs.<div> </div><div>HOUSING IN DAVAO CITY</div>Marcos also visited the People&#x27;s Ville, a condominium-type housing, located in Barangay Riverside, Calinan District, in Davao City.He said this is higher than BLISS, the housing program of the Bagong Lipunan Improvement of Sites and Services, a national low-cost public housing initiative launched in the Philippines in 1979 by the administration of President Marcos Jr.&#x27;s parents.&quot;It&#x27;s BLISS. And higher. Kasi syempre we are progressing now. At hindi na tayo, kasi dati, ito sa house and lot talagang pinag-uusapan, except sa cities na ginagawang mid-rise. Dati, 5 stories. So ito, ganun din, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, pero mas malaki yung building,&quot; President Marcos said during an interview.The President committed to add 42 more buildings, noting that the government is now prioritizing housing nationwide. &quot;Kasi ang ginagawa natin ngayon, hindi lang tayo gumagawa ng bahay, gumagawa tayo ng community na kumpleto na lahat. Dahil mahirap tirahan kung wala naman pupuntahan yung mga bata, walang malapit na palengke, hindi malapit  sa trabaho,&quot; Marcos said.&quot;Yun ang mga titignan natin, hindi lang yung pagpatayo ng bahay.  We&#x27;ll be continuing. Siguro lahat ito, yung buo nito, matatapos. By end next year,  matatapos natin yan. By the end of next year, lahat ng 42 na buildings,&quot; he added.Meanwhile, Marcos also ordered Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon to check on the flooded areas .&quot;At isa pang bagay, pinag-aaral dito si Secretary Vince Dizon (of the Department of Public Works and Highways) at magpapaiwan siya rito. Para hindi na tayo makakakita ng baha na kagaya na nang nakita natin recently,&quot; Marcos said.Several families in Davao City still have no homes, and others need safe, orderly, and affordable housing.Among the reasons that there are still several families that have no housing is the increase in population, and the need for the people to be relocated to safer housing communities and out of danger zones.The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has been ordered to develop housing units that are affordable to poor people, especially for the  informal settler families.The project is a vertical housing development which is aimed at constructing  72 buildings with a total of 7,200 housing units within 14  hectares of land.At present, the agency has finished  26 buildings with a total of 2,600 housing units.<div> </div><div> </div>
