Chel Diokno—on the issuance of a subpoena to the Bureau of Internal Revenue to open a box containing the tax records of Vice President Sara Duterte, during the sixth day of the impeachment proceedings on July 15, 2026. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Senate impeachment court observed status quo in the order of presentation of evidence for the rest of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.</p><p>Senate impeachment presiding officer Chiz Escudero explained the decision was because no agreement was formed between the prosecution and defense.</p><p>“It is clear based on your written manifestations that there is no agreement between the two parties. Therefore, we shall proceed as originally ruled,” Escudero explained at the end of the tenth day of the impeachment trial on Wednesday. </p><p>This came after the prosecution submitted a three-page manifestation supporting an initial suggestion of an article-by-article trial flow.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/29/prosecution-backs-per-article-presentation-of-evidence-in-duterte-impeachment-trial-1131">Prosecution backs per-article presentation of evidence in Duterte impeachment trial</a></div><p>Prosecution spokesperson Atty. Jay Tolosa, however, earlier clarified that their manifestation was based on an earlier suggestion by Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian.</p><p>“Just to make a clarification, I think there&#x27;s a wrong impression that the motion to change the order of presentation of evidence came from the prosecution,” Tolosa said.</p><p>“As stated in one of the interviews given by the Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, it was made clear that this suggestion was actually first discussed by Senate President Gatchalian and the presiding officer, Chiz Escudero.”</p><p>Tolosa also said the defense opposed the manifestation, arguing that it covered matters not included in the pre-trial order and raised due process concerns.</p><p>He added despite not pushing through with the changes the prosecution still respects the Senate’s decision.</p><p>“And as we&#x27;ve stated in our statement earlier this morning, we will comply with whatever directive, this impeachment court issues in this matter.
