Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said investigators were looking into the possible connection between the explosion of an IED outside the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the recovery of another IED outside the Senate on the same day.</p><p>“We need to crack down on that and we have good leads. Our operatives, our detectives are in close coordination with the different law enforcement units para mahuli natin,” Nartatez said. </p><p>The PNP chief made the remarks during the closing ceremony of the IED Threat and Security Symposium in Malay, Aklan, where he stressed the need to strengthen the capability of law enforcement agencies to detect, prevent, and respond to evolving IED threats.</p><p>“We gathered today because the threats we face continue to evolve in complexity and sophistication. Randulf Tuaño said the symposium was part of the PNP&#x27;s proactive approach against evolving security threats. </p><p>“Dito sa Western Visayas, nakita natin maraming mga ports dito sa kabuuan ng Panay island so malaking bagay ‘yung tulong ng mga local government units, ‘yung pagte-train ng mga K9 dogs natin para ma-detect natin ‘yung mga threat na posibleng dumating hindi lamang dito sa Western Visayas, kundi sa buong kapuluan ng Pilipinas,” Tuano said. </p><p>Tuaño also attributed the continued decline in crime incidents in Western Visayas to the strong partnership between the PNP, local government units, and communities.</p><p>“Hindi kakayanin ng PNP mag-isa ‘yung ganitong pagsugpo ng mga threat. Kailangan natin ‘yung suporta ng mga community kaya nga ‘yung ganitong training sinasabi ifollow-up pa after a quarter para mas dumami ‘yung mga trained natin na PNP personnel,” he added. </p><p>Nartatez thanked local and international partner agencies, subject matter experts, and PNP personnel for participating in the symposium, saying the discussions on emerging threats, bomb threat management, evolving technologies, and intelligence sharing would help improve future operations.</p><p>He stressed that effective counter-IED operations require a whole-of-government approach, adding that no single institution can confront the threat alone. </p><p>“The true value of this symposium, however, will be measured not by the discussions you have held, but by how you apply what you have learned,” he said. </p><p>“As you return to your respective units, agencies and countries, I encourage you to sustain the partnership established here.
