Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — Lawyer Manases &quot;Mans&quot; Carpio, the spouse of Vice President Sara Duterte, on Friday questioned the release of their Bureau of Internal Revenue records to the Senate impeachment court.</p><p>In a statement, Carpio said that while they respected the authority of the Senate court and would comply with processes, &quot;legal issues&quot; surrounding President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.&#x27;s authorization on their tax records &quot;merit judicial review.&quot;</p><p>On Thursday, <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/30/bir-submits-duterte-tax-records-to-impeachment-court-1102">the BIR submitted the documents related to the tax filings</a> of Duterte and her husband as well as the corporations linked to them following approval from Marcos. A presidential consent is one of the conditions set by the country&#x27;s tax code for the issuance of one&#x27;s records.</p><p>The tax records were subpoenaed by the Senate court, which also ordered the release of the couple&#x27;s bank and Anti-Money Laundering Council files.</p><p>It determined that the financial documents were relevant to Duterte&#x27;s impeachment case but stressed that they would not be used to allege additional impeachable offenses. A separate discussion on their admissibility as evidence would be conducted later in the trial.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/30/palace-on-release-of-sara-duterte-s-tax-records-marcos-will-not-withhold-truth-from-public-1431">Palace on release of Sara Duterte’s tax records: Marcos will not withhold truth from public</a></div><p>Carpio argued that the tax authorization should be evaluated under applicable constitutional and statutory framework governing taxpayer information and the exercise of executive authority.</p><p>His legal team contended that there was &quot;no indication&quot; that the BIR issued any tax assessment or determination of tax deficiency against either him or the Vice President. </p><p>They also questioned whether procedural requirements and recommendations contemplated under the applicable legal framework were satisfied before the authorization was issued.</p><p>&quot;The submission of documents to the Senate Impeachment Court is a procedural step.
