<p>MANILA — The Senate impeachment court on Monday issued a subpoena to two National Bureau of Investigation officials to appear as witnesses at the first week of the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.</p><p>The court granted the prosecution’s request to issue subpoenas for the testimonies of Atty. Jeremy Lotoc, regional director of National Bureau of Investigation Bangsamoro Administrative Region for Muslim Mindanao, and John Mark Calilung, senior agent of the National Bureau of Investigation Cyber Investigation and Assessment Center.</p><p>It also issued them subpoenas duces tecum, an order to submit documents, records and similar pieces of evidence.</p><p>The court meanwhile ordered the return of the box from the Bureau of Internal Revenue containing tax records of Vice President Sara Duterte and Atty. Manases Carpio. </p><p>According to presiding officer Sen. Francis Escudero, the box was turned over to the Senate along with the Articles of Impeachment, but the court is not yet in custody of the box, and its contents have not been formally marked as evidence.</p><p>“The chair therefore ordered that the BIR box, closed, sealed and as it is received, be sent back to the BIR without prejudice to any action that the court may take if a motion will be filed by either party for the issuance of a subpoena and we shall await action, if any, by the BIR commissioner should that time come,” Escudero said.</p><p>House prosecutors had asked the impeachment court to have the box opened and its contents marked as evidence during the pre-trial conference but Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr., who is clerk of court, said he had no authority to do that.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/25/prosecution-duterte-tax-box-from-bir-can-still-be-opened-by-court-during-trial-2339">Prosecution: Duterte tax box from BIR can still be opened by court during trial</a></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>BANK, AMLC RECORDS</strong></div><p>Meanwhile, the prosecution filed another request for a subpoena deuces tecum for several banks to submit bank documents connected to the accounts of Duterte and Carpio.</p><p>According to House prosecution panel member Chel Diokno of Akbayan Party-List, they had requested a subpoena to banks and to the Anti-Money Laundering Council in early June but received no responses.</p><p>That prompted them to refile the request.</p><p>The court then ordered the prosecution to provide the defense a copy of the request for subpoena, and both parties were given five days to file their comment or opposition, to which oral arguments will be scheduled. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>SEQUENCE OF EVIDENCE PRESENTATION</strong></div><p>The court also granted the prosecution’s proposed sequence of evidence presentation.</p><p>According to Diokno, the prosecution will first present evidence connected to Article IV or grave threats, followed by Article I (confidential funds), Article III (bribery) and Article II (unexplained wealth).</p><div><a class="fr-strong fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/6/in-opening-speech-luistro-says-prosecution-to-show-evidence-not-rumors-in-duterte-trial-1613">&#x27;Hindi socmed narrative&#x27;: Luistro says prosecution to show evidence, not rumors, in Duterte trial</a></div><div><a class="fr-strong fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/6/in-opening-statement-defense-raises-sc-ruling-vs-duterte-impeachment-in-2025-1701">In opening statement, defense raises SC ruling vs Duterte impeachment in 2025</a></div>
