Rodante Marcoleta during a special session at the Senate of the Philippines on June 17, 2026. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — Senator Rodante Marcoleta may remain at the Philippine National Police General Hospital for up to two days as he undergoes a series of medical examinations following his arrest over a plunder case on Monday, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said. </p><p>Remulla said the 72-year-old senator is undergoing comprehensive medical tests, including an electrocardiogram (ECG), to determine whether he is fit for detention.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/6/marcoleta-arrest-plunder-1023">READ: Marcoleta arrested for non-bailable plunder case</a></div><p>&quot;Seventy-two na po si Sen. Marcoleta, hindi lang po simple blood pressure at heartbeat ang kailangan gawin sa kanya. Marami pa po siyang test na pagdadaanan katulad ng mga ECG at iba pa para sigurado ang kanyang fitness,&quot; Remulla told reporters.</p><p>The Interior chief said authorities expect the medical evaluation to be completed within one to two days, after which a full medical report will be submitted to the Sandiganbayan.</p><p>If declared fit, Marcoleta will be transferred to the Quezon City Jail in Payatas, where the anti-graft court ordered his detention pending trial.</p><p>Marcoleta was arrested Monday morning after the Sandiganbayan denied his motion to quash the warrant of arrest issued against him.</p><p>According to Remulla, the senator arrived at the Sandiganbayan around 9 a.m. to challenge the warrant. </p><p>After the motion was denied, authorities secured the court premises and implemented the arrest.</p><p>&quot;Ang alam kong unang tanong niyo was he arrested or did he surrender. It was both. He went there voluntarily sa Sandiganbayan to file a motion to quash. Subsequently when it was denied, we closed down the building we arrived and we arrested him, so it is both,&quot; Remulla explained. </p><p>The senator was then brought to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Camp Crame, where he is undergoing booking procedures alongside his medical examination.</p><p>Remulla also said Marcoleta&#x27;s mugshot would be released after processing but stressed that authorities would respect the senator&#x27;s rights.</p><p>&quot;I must remind everyone we are not here to humiliate anyone. Kung anuman ang kanyang kalagayan sa kanyang buhok ay hindi ho namin wawalanghiyain.
