Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Vice President Sara Duterte arrives at the Senate on Tuesday, July 7, before the second day of her impeachment trial. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span>MANILA — Prosecutors in Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial are “110 percent sure” that the Philippines’ second-highest official violated the Constitution after she launched assassination threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., one of the panel’s lawyers said on Tuesday, a few hours after it questioned its first witness.</div><p>After several objections from Duterte’s defense counsel, the prosecution succeeded in playing clips of Duterte’s press conferences in October and November 2024, where the Vice President divulged that she has contracted an assassin to exterminate Marcos, and that she wanted to behead the President.</p><p>“‘Yung pagbabanta ng bise sa buhay ng pangulo ng republika hindi po yan normal. ‘Yan po ay unang pagkakataon na nangyari yan, nakipag kontrata sa mamamatay tao,” said Amando Virgil Ligutan, one of the counsels for the prosecution.</p><p>“That act — 110 percent sure — betrayed the public trust,” he said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/7/duterte-security-team-at-senate-no-confirmation-if-vp-to-attend-trial-1127">Duterte says she will be &#x27;bloodied but unbowed&#x27; as impeachment trial enters Day 2</a></div><p>Defense lawyer Carlo Joaquin Narvasa told the court that the prosecution cannot cherry pick 2-minute snippets from hours-long interviews to establish its case.</p><p>“Prosecution cannot be allowed to present small truncated part of a whole 2-hour, 26-minute video that will not provide the context necessary for the understanding of what occurred during that night of November 23,” he said.</p><p>The impeachment court, however, rejected Narvasa’s objections.</p><p>Ligutan rebutted, saying that Duterte’s repeated expressions of wanting to harm Marcos “could establish what we call a specific intent, knowledge, identity, plan.”</p><p>“‘Yun po yung culmination sa mga series of statements ng vice president na talagang gusto niyang patayin yung President, yung First Lady at former Speaker of the House,” Ligutan said.</p><p>“Talagang may plano na, talagang may system na, may knowledge na, gusto niyang pugutan ng ulo, gusto niyang patayin.” </p><p>The Senate impeachment court adjourned after 4 and a half hours of proceedings, saying that it would schedule the defense’s cross examination of the first witness on July 8.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/7/defense-wants-whole-2-hour-duterte-video-shown-1652">Duterte defense wants prosecution to show 2-hour video; Escudero says court won&#x27;t interfere</a></div><div> </div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ccyfYzUJDP8?si=tf_OyGUJSmGHmGgg" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>
