However, uncertainty remains over whether authorities will carry out the demolition at a later date.</p><p>The looming threat comes just over two months after a fire on April 30 razed around 300 homes in the neighborhood.</p><p>Among those fearing displacement is 76-year-old Erlinda Basa, who has lived in the area her entire life.</p><p>“Isang buwan na po tapos eto may dumating naman po sa amin na hindi rin maganda. Nasunugan na kami, gigibain pa kami,” she said. </p><p>Basa broke down in tears as she spoke about the possibility of losing what remains of her home.</p><p>“Hirap na hirap na po kami, yung mga anak ko. Tingnan niyo naman po itsura ng (tulugan namin),” she added.</p><p>She now shares a makeshift shelter with her husband, four children, and two grandchildren after their house was destroyed in the fire.</p><p>Basa said her family also struggled through the night as they worried that the approaching storm could further damage their temporary home.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2026/7/8/inday-slightly-intensifies-over-philippine-sea-1154">Inday slightly intensifies over Philippine Sea</a></div><p>“Hindi kami nakatulog dahil alam namin babagyo. Nakaupo kaming pamilya diyan kaya ngayon pinatulog ko na muna sila, kayo muna matulog, ako mauupo muna,” Basa said.</p><p>The neighborhood association said it saw a demolition notice dated July 2 but refused to receive it. As of Wednesday, residents said they have yet to receive clear information on whether the demolition will be rescheduled.</p><p>Tension erupts as residents resist demolition attempt in Tondo, Manila</p><p>The planned demolition stems from an ejectment case involving the property, which is reportedly owned by a private corporation. In October 2024, the Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 24 issued a demolition order after four years of litigation.</p><p>In May 2025, however, the Manila Regional Trial Court issued a temporary restraining order (TRO), halting the demolition scheduled at the time while legal proceedings continued.</p><p>For now, residents continue to appeal for government assistance and clarity on their future.</p><p>“Sa totoo lang, napakahirap ng naging buhay namin.
