Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News/File</div>MANILA -- The temporary freedom of former Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. is an &quot;eye opener&quot; to strengthen the fight against corruption, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Saturday.Revilla was freed from detention after posting a P1-million cash bond. The Sandiganbayan Third Division had granted his bail petition for his malversation case over a supposed ghost flood control project in Bulacan. Early this year, the former lawmaker also posted bail for a graft case.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/31/sandiganbayan-grants-revilla-s-bail-petition-for-malversation-1503">READ: Revilla posts P1-million bail for malversation case</a></div>For Remulla, the fight against corruption is not yet over.&quot;It&#x27;s just part of the battle. Alam mo, we are fighting a big war, [it&#x27;s] just one battle and in that battle, iba &#x27;yung naging desisyon,&quot; the Ombudsman said on DZRH&#x27;s Executive Session.&quot;It&#x27;s an eye opener that we have to fight harder for this battle, for us to win the war against corruption,&quot; he said.Remulla stressed that the anti-graft body is not weaponizing its role.&quot;Kami sa Ombudsman, we raised the standard of reasonable certainty of conviction before we file a case,&quot; he said. &quot;Hindi weaponized ang trabaho namin, [it&#x27;s] evidence-based.&quot;The official also said they had predicted that a bail had been in the works.Remulla reiterated that a whole-of-government approach is needed to eradicate corruption in the country.Standing by the Ombudsman&#x27;s probe, Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano earlier said they &quot;will exhaust all remedies to highlight the basis&quot; for which they can say that &quot;evidence of guilt is indeed strong&quot; against Revilla. <div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/31/ombudsman-stands-by-probe-despite-revilla-bail-2342">READ: Ombudsman stands by probe despite Revilla bail</a></div>Senator JV Ejercito, meanwhile, noted that a certainty of punishment is vital.&quot;Importante &#x27;yung certainty of punishment para magtanda, para may matakot. Ang problema hindi natatakot ang iba gumawa ng kabulastugan kasi walang nakukulong,&quot; he said in the same program.Ejercito&#x27;s brother, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, has been in detention for a non-bailable plunder charge.Estrada has posted bail for a separate graft charge. The charges are also in relation to alleged flood control projects.The Office of the Ombudsman has been investigating a number of cases in connection to the flood control scandal.
