<p>QUEZON CITY — Barangay Bagong Silangan in Quezon City remains submerged in knee-deep floodwaters even as the rains have relatively subsided on Monday, August 10.</p><p>More than 100 families sheltered at the barangay’s evacuation center, while some residents chose to stay behind to guard their homes and livestock.</p><p>Fifty-five-year-old Virginia Alonzo allowed her children to evacuate, while she and her husband stayed home to guard their belongings and chickens, which serve as their source of livelihood.</p><p>“Kaso lang po, kailangan namin bumalik dito kasi yung mga gamit namin po at saka mga kayop namin ay nandito po. Siguro po sa flood control po, kailangan matibay yung paggagawa namin sa ilog namin.
