Francis &quot;Chiz&quot; Escudero has <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/8/6/house-members-cite-fuel-prices-in-bid-to-move-barangay-polls-to-2028-1319">filed a bill for the postponement </a>of the local elections, and it already has a counterpart at the House of Representatives.</p><p>&quot;Sa ngayon po ay dapat mabasa muna kung anuman po ang kanilang panukala,&quot; Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Monday.</p><p>(For now, the president has to read whatever has been proposed.)</p><p>She said Marcos Jr. can neither agree or disagree with poll postponement until he sees proponents&#x27; reasons for it.</p><p>The BSKE was originally set in December 2025, but was already postponed when the president signed Republic Act 12232 — which set the term of office of barangay officials and members of the Sangguniang Kabataan to four years from the current three years.</p><p>The current proposal cites the energy crisis as one of the reasons to postpone the barangay elections.</p><p>&quot;Siguro dapat ma-justify,&quot; Castro said.</p><p>(I suppose they have to justify it.)</p><p>Poll watchdog National Citizens&#x27; Movement for Free Elections has warned that another postponement will make further delays in holding the barangay polls, which are frequently pushed back, more likely.</p><p>It also said postponement dilutes accountability in barangay-level politics.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/8/11/bucor-probes-alleged-mishandling-of-trust-fund-for-ciw-detainees-1640">Comelec to request no work, classes on Nov. 3 for barangay, SK polls</a></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/KJ0Yrl9QU4o?si=2sblwj795CoTk_NX" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>
