Juan Miguel Zubiri on Tuesday moved to push the schedule of <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/sara-duterte-impeachment-trial">Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial</a> to an afternoon schedule, saying that this would give more time for the proceedings.</p><p>Under the current set-up, the trial begins at 10 a.m. and adjourns at around 2:30 p.m. to make way for the Senate’s regular session at around 3 p.m.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/sara-duterte-impeachment-trial">Impeachment Trial of Sara Duterte </a></div><p>“Last week, when we did our sessions, we only took about 2-3 hours tackling our legislative calendar,” Zubiri said.</p><p>“May I suggest that we move our legislative sessions at 10 and then have the impeachment trial at 3 in the afternoon so that we are not hampered by our legislative calendar when discussions such as these are important,” he said.</p><p>“When you present evidence and the cross would be done by the counsels for respondent, hindi po mapuputol yung kanilang discussion… hanggang sawa tayo dito from 3 to 10 ng gabi. Lahat ng tao makakapanood din,” he added.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/8/11/-fuller-picture-of-irregularities-emerges-in-impeachment-hearing-house-prosecution-1632">‘Fuller picture of irregularities’ emerges in impeachment hearing - House prosecution </a></div><p>Trial presiding officer Francis Escudero initially said that the chamber should adjust the schedule “as the need arises… subject to a day’s notice” for parties, but before he could finalize the ruling, two other senators raised issues about the proposal.</p><p>“I remember we discussed this in caucus so can we just go into caucus kasi there were reasons we decided on this,” Sen. Pia Cayetano said.</p><p>“So may I humbly suggest that we take a moment and just discuss this in caucus, plus the Minority Leader is not here,” she said.</p><p>“I remember not too long ago that the Majority Floor Leader even brought up the idea of starting 30 minutes after from 10 o’clock to 10:30… Let’s afford the same time for such decisions. We cannot do it right away,” Sen.
