<p>MANILA — The counsel of former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Mimaropa Maintenance Division Chief Juliet Calvo filed an urgent motion for hospital arrest on Aug. 10 after his client reportedly became paralyzed while detained at the Camp Caringal Female Dormitory in Quezon City.</p><p>Calvo’s lawyer Edwin Labro Jr. told the Sandiganbayan Sixth Division that his client had been transferred to a private hospital in Pasig City, where she is undergoing medical tests and observation.</p><p>According to Labro, Calvo became paralyzed on Aug. 5 and can no longer verbally communicate. He said she is only occasionally able to move her fingers and toes.</p><p>Labro said doctors would continue to monitor Calvo for another week and a half as they determine the cause of her condition.</p><p>The Sixth Division, chaired by Associate Justice Sarah Jane Fernandez, said it would set a hearing on Calvo’s motion. David Gabriel, who had represented Casuno in previous hearings, informed the court that he would be withdrawing as counsel.
