PCO/Facebook/File</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday said that he would endorse a presidential candidate in 2028 who would continue his anti-corruption measures, but added that he has yet to make a final call on who the administration would field against Vice President Sara Duterte for the Philippines’ top elected post.</p><p>“I will certainly endorse a candidate in the 2028 elections. Who that is, I don’t know. Maaga pa. So far we only have one person who has thrown her hat in the ring,” he said.</p><p>“The candidate I will endorse will be someone who I am confident will continue our anti-corruption measures,” he said.</p><p>So far, Duterte is the lone politician who has formally announced that she would vie for the presidency in 2028. The announcement was made in February, days before former President Rodrigo Duterte’s confirmation of charges hearing in the International Criminal Court. </p><p>“I haven’t sat down with anyone and said, ‘Do you want to run for president or not?’” Marcos said during his luncheon with the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP).</p><p>“The time will come and we will provide… We will certainly provide the best candidate for the betterment of lives of Filipino,” he said.</p><p>“We will choose the best possible candidate. You&#x27;re a politician. But only to a very small extent,” he said.</p><p>“If your numbers aren&#x27;t good, I wish they were better. If your numbers are good, then you said great, but once that stays in my mind maybe for a minute or two, then I get back to work after that,” he said.</p><p>The President underscored that he also does not take surveys into account when deciding on policies.</p><p>“I see them, but it doesn&#x27;t make any difference to me. I don&#x27;t change my decision because of the survey. I don&#x27;t change direction because of the survey. I take a decision because what I feel is the proper decision to make,” he said.</p><p>“I adopt a policy because I believe that it&#x27;s the best policy, and a survey doesn&#x27;t really come into it because it does not determine the rightness or wrongness of what I&#x27;m trying to do or what my government is trying to do. So, it&#x27;s not that I don&#x27;t care.”</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/19/hontiveros-says-democratic-opposition-to-announce-presidential-bet-by-early-2027-1422">Hontiveros says &#x27;democratic opposition&#x27; to announce presidential bet by early 2027</a></div><p><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/8/12/marcos-administration-s-satisfaction-rating-rebounds-to-neutral-1-in-june-sws-1635">Marcos’ public satisfaction rating </a>recovered to neutral territory in June 2026, with its net satisfaction rating rising 14 points from -13 in March to +1, according to a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released earlier this week.</p><p>The latest SWS national survey found that 42 percent of adult Filipinos were satisfied with the general performance of the national administration, while 40 percent were dissatisfied and 17 percent were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.</p><p>SWS classifies net satisfaction ratings from +9 to -9 as neutral.</p><p>Marcos and Duterte ran as a tandem in the 2022 national elections, where they won via a landslinde.
