Benigno &quot;Ninoy&quot; Aquino Jr.&#x27;s assassination, the August Twenty-One Movement that it created held a walk on Sunday to renew a call for accountability for government officials.</p><p>The group has maintained that impunity in contemporary politics is linked to the lack of accountability for excesses, abuse, and corruption during the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.</p><p>&quot;The reason why we are in this sorry state right now in our country — maraming korapsyon and everything — wala po kasing accountability (there is so much corruption and everything because there has been no accountability),” Volt Bohol, ATOM president, said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>&#x27;HISTORICAL DISTORTION&#x27;</strong></div><p>He said &quot;many&quot; have continued to lie as he referenced a recent insistence by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. that the family has no ill-gotten wealth.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/8/15/group-refutes-marcos-claim-of-no-family-ill-gotten-wealth-1638"><strong>Group refutes Marcos’ claim of no family ill-gotten wealth<br/></strong></a></div><p>&quot;Hindi po totoo yun at matagal na pong naglalabas ng mga historical distortion ang pamilya Marcos,&quot; Bohol said.</p><p>(That is not true and the Marcos family has long been engaged in historical distortion.)</p><p>ATOM said politicians&#x27; lies should always be countered with facts and with truth. </p><p>The organization has long advocated for reaffirming the public&#x27;s commitment to upholding factual information and fighting disinformation coming from the country’s leaders.</p><p>ATOM said the walk, which was held at the Ninoy Aquino Monument in Makati City, was also done in memory of Butz Aquino, Ninoy&#x27;s brother and the organization&#x27;s founder.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/13/-laughable-group-rejects-alan-peter-cayetano-comparing-self-to-ninoy-1435"><strong>‘Laughable’: Group rejects Alan Peter Cayetano comparing self to Ninoy<br/></strong></a></div><p>Bohol said Butz was instrumental in getting Filipinos who were not activists and who were not interested in politics to &quot;[take] it upon themselves to really do something about the state of our nation, especially the fight against the Marcos dictatorship.&quot;</p>
