<p>MANILA (<strong>UPDATED</strong>) — The canopy of a thirty-year-old building  collapsed along Kalentong St., Barangay Daang Bakal, Mandaluyong City, just past 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 16. </p><p>According to the Mandaluyong City Engineering Office, the building was already abandoned, with no tenants or occupants. </p><p>&quot;Part ng canopy yung bumagsak… Old century na po yung building. Siguro more than 30 years na to. Pero bakante na po yung canopy. It just happens siguro, mahina na rin yung structural niya, nagkaroon na ng hindi natin inaasahan na pangyayari,&quot; Kagawad Redd Abanes explained. </p><p>Roxas added they had already given a three-week notice of demolition to the building prior to the incident because of safety concerns. </p><p>&quot;Actually may mga notice na po kami dyan. At binigyan na po namin notice yung may-ari at 3 weeks ago na. And then nagsalagay pa nga kami ng tarpaulin na condemned na talaga yung building. Unsafe na yung building,&quot; Roxas said.</p><p>No injuries were reported, and only minor damage to the sidewalk was observed.</p><p>&quot;Ngayon, nung in-assess na nila, good thing wala namang casualty doon nagkaroon ng minimal damage sa mga fence sa sidewalk… Actually, swerte rin kasi during weekdays, itong area na ito, punong-puno ito. Heavy traffic talaga. Siguro nagkataon na linggo. Kaya kahit papaano, blessed pa rin na wala na rin na disgrasya,&quot; Abanes added. </p><p>As of 5 p.m., one lane of the road is still closed to traffic to give way for clearing operations. </p><p>Authorities added that the building&#x27;s owner has been closely coordinating with them for the demolition of the structure. </p>
