George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News "/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">The Supreme Court building in Padre Faura, Manila on August 24, 2022. <em>George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Judicial and Bar Council has opened the application for a new Supreme Court associate justice who will replace retiring Associate Justice Amy Lazaro-Javier.</p><p>Lazaro-Javier, who was appointed by former President Rodrigo Duterte on March 7, 2019, is set to compulsorily retire on November 16, 2026.</p><p>Lazaro-Javier’s replacement will become President Ferdinand Marcos’ second appointee to the high court after the appointment of Associate Justice Raul Villanueva last year.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/6/10/marcos-jr-administers-oath-to-new-sc-associate-justice-raul-villanueva-1219">Marcos Jr. administers oath to new SC Associate Justice Raul Villanueva</a></div><p>Interested applicants are required by the JBC to submit documentary requirements such application and recommendation letters, as well as income tax returns and Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth, among others.</p>
