Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News/File"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News/File</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA <strong>(3rd UPDATE)</strong>— Vice President Sara Duterte said her supposed plan to go to Japan has changed, &quot;and the updated information on this matter was formally submitted to the Office of the President.&quot;</p><p>The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) earlier confirmed that VP Sara Duterte has obtained a travel authority to Japan from August 19-24.</p><p>PCO said this is a personal trip and of no cost to the government.</p><p>&quot;I wish to again remind the Office of the President that the continued publication or disclosure of my schedule is a matter of serious concern, particularly as it compromises my personal security and exposes me to heightened risks,&quot; Duterte said in a statement.</p><p>In a statement, Palace Press Press Officer Claire Castro said the public deserves to know the foreign trips of the Vice President.</p><p>&quot;She should be reminded that she is a public official and cannot just hide her face wherever she goes. There is nothing wrong with informing the public about the travel authority, as public funds are being spent on her security and staff,&quot; Castro said in a statement.</p><p>&quot;The government spent P7-M for her security and staff for her foreign trips. Filipino people deserve to know where the public funds go,&quot; Castro added.</p><p>Duterte has also left the country in July for a series of engagements, including a visit to her father at the International Criminal Court in The Netherlands. </p><div><br/><strong>WHERE DO PUBLIC FUNDS GO?</strong></div><p>In a separate statement, Duterte said transparency and accountability should also be demanded from the Office of the President.</p><p>“Transparency and accountability should not be demanded from a single government office alone. The Office of the President issue travel authorities to numerous government offices, including its own officials and employees,” she said.</p><p>“In this light, the public would surely appreciate full information on the travel expenses incurred by these offices and officials, including the public funds used for such trips,” Duterte added.</p><p>Duterte likewise said all travel authorities issued by the President, along with the corresponding travel expenses and public funds involved, should be made available to the public.</p><div><br/></div><div><br/></div><div><br/></div>
