<p>ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) provided psychological first aid to 102 students, 75 parents, and three faculty members a day after a shooting at its Junior High School campus left two students, including the shooter, dead.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/8/18/shooting-incident-reported-inside-zamboanga-city-school-0934">READ: Two dead in Ateneo de Zamboanga shooting</a></div><p>AdZU President Fr. Guillrey Anthony &quot;Ernald&quot; Andal, SJ said the university continues to accompany the families, students, and personnel most deeply affected by the incident.</p><p>&quot;Our psychological first aid team is now providing support. We have served 102 students, 75 parents, and 3 faculty members today,&quot; Andal said in a recorded video on Wednesday.</p><p>The university’s guidance counselors, pastoral ministers, personnel, and School of Medicine are working with government agencies and volunteers to provide assistance to the affected school community.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/8/19/beyond-school-security-angara-urges-communities-to-check-in-on-students-1530">Beyond school security: Angara urges communities to check in on students</a></div><p>&quot;Today, we met again with officials of the Zamboanga City Government, the police, and national agencies, including the Department of Education (DepEd), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Senate, the Office of the Vice President, and other agencies. We thank them for their sympathies, presence, and offers of support,&quot; he noted.</p><p>Andal said the university is cooperating with police investigators and has turned over relevant security footage from its Tumaga campus.</p><p>&quot;Yesterday, we turned over relevant security footage to the Zamboanga City Police Office and the CIDG [Criminal Investigation and Detection Group]. Members of our school community have also been interviewed to help establish the facts,&quot; Andal said.</p><p>The university has also sought the assistance of the Philippine National Police (PNP) CIDG and cybercrime authorities in addressing false and misleading information circulating online.</p><p>&quot;Such posts only deepen the pain of the families and those affected,&quot; Andal added.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/8/19/ateneo-school-shooter-took-2-guns-from-customs-exec-father-s-car-boc-chief-1016">READ: Zamboanga school shooter took 2 guns from Customs exec father’s car–BOC chief</a></div><p>He reiterated that two students died in the incident, including the shooter, while another student is recovering from injuries.</p><p>Andal also stressed that the motive behind the shooting has not yet been conclusively determined.</p><p>&quot;We urge everyone to refrain from speculation and allow the investigation to establish the facts,&quot; he said.</p><p>He added that AdZU remains ready to provide authorities with any further information or assistance needed to complete their investigation.</p><p>&quot;In the days ahead, our work of caring and accompanying continues.
