Senator-judges examine witness testimony on the confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education’s (DepEd) as the Senate impeachment court convened for Day 15 of the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

State auditor Xylene Del Campo faced cross-examination by the defense panel in relation to the findings and evaluation of the Commission on Audit Intelligence and Confidential Funds Audit Office (COA-ICFAO) of Duterte’s confidential fund liquidation.
Following the cross-examination, the senator-judges asked Del Campo key clarificatory questions regarding the audit findings.

Voltaire Domingo, Senate Social Media Unit"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Senator-judges examine witness testimony on the confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education’s (DepEd) as the Senate impeachment court convened for Day 15 of the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. <em>Voltaire Domingo, Senate Social Media Unit</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA (<strong>UPDATED</strong>) — Senators will meet on Monday to discuss the schedule of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, after recent inclement weather led to work disruptions.</p><p>Poor weather forced an early suspension of the trial last Monday, and the Senate impeachment court opted to postpone trial days on Tuesday and Wednesday as the southwest monsoon caused flooding in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.</p><p>The inclement weather, along with impending hearings on the proposed 2027 national budget, has led to suggestions to change the schedule of the impeachment trial.</p><p>&quot;We, the majority and the minority, will meet on Monday (at the lounge) to get the consensus of the majority of the members if they agree to move the trial in the afternoon to give more time and speed up the trial,&quot; Sen. Erwin Tulfo said in a message to ABS-CBN News on Saturday.</p><p>Meanwhile, according to Sen. Panfilo Lacson, the sentiment of the majority of senator-judges is to move the impeachment trial to the afternoon, starting September 1. </p><p>Under the proposed setup, the regular Senate sessions may be held Mondays to Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the trial would start at 2:30 p.m. to at least 7:30 p.m.</p><p>Lacson said most members of the Senate majority bloc want to maximize the time for the impeachment trial by holding legislative sessions in the morning and moving the trial to the afternoon and potentially extending it into the evening. &quot;</p><p>At least in the majority group, this is the dominating sentiment. </p><p>We will hold legislative sessions in the morning so the impeachment trial would not be cut short. It is a more practical setup,&quot; he said. &quot;</p><p>To me, this is more practical. And my colleagues in the majority bloc share this sentiment.&quot; </p><p>Lacson said there is no pressure to end the proceedings strictly at 7:30 p.m., adding it could extend up to 10 or 11 p.m. if necessary. </p><p>He said this will be formalized in the senators&#x27; caucus next week, where the minority bloc members will be consulted on the matter. </p><p>Lacson said that if the senators agree on the new schedule, it will likely be announced on Wednesday, Aug. 26, as announcements on trial schedules for the next week are usually made on Wednesdays, so the prosecution and defense will have enough time to prepare. </p><p>&quot;If there are pressing matters on the legislative side, we can flip the schedule again if needed,&quot; he said. </p><p>&quot;Definitely next week, the impeachment trial will still be in the morning.
