MANILA - Malacañang assured on Thursday that the budget for assisting distressed overseas Filipino workers will be augmented next year.Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Chief PY Caunan expressed concern during a congressional budget hearing on the reduced Emergency Repatriation Fund for 2027 from P1.2 billion for the past three years to just over P900 million. “Nagkataon po, ayon din po kay OWWA Chief PY Caunan, na-submit po kasi nila iyong kanilang budget bago nagkaroon ng krisis sa Middle East, kaya iyan lamang po ang kanilang nailagay na proposed budget,” Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a press briefing on Thursday, August 27. Castro said P3 billion will be added to the Department of Migrant Workers&#x27; AKSYON Fund, while P1 billion will augment OWWA&#x27;s budget including P700 million for emergency repatriation. “So alam po nila, ng OWWA at ng DMW ang patuloy na pagtutok ng Pangulo para mas maraming matulungan sa mga sitwasyong naranasan tulad noong nangyari noong krisis sa Middle East,” Castro noted.
