MANILA — Flooding persisted in several parts of Metro Manila early Saturday, August 29, as continuous rains brought by the southwest monsoon, locally known as Habagat, affected low-lying areas.As of 1:00 a.m., gutter-deep or sidewalk-level flooding was reported in parts of Malabon City following successive downpours over recent days.In Barangay Maysilo, floodwaters along M.H. Del Pilar Street reached gutter-deep but remained passable to all types of vehicles.Similar conditions were observed in Barangay Panghulo, particularly along Panghulo Road and near Tatawid Market, where floodwaters also remained gutter-deep amid continued rainfall.Due to the situation, the Malabon City government suspended classes at all levels in both public and private schools on Friday as a precaution against the effects of flooding. Classes continued through alternative modes of learning.Authorities advised residents to remain alert, secure their belongings, and avoid wading through floodwaters unless necessary due to potential health and safety risks. Local officials said response teams remain on standby to monitor the situation.Meanwhile, flooding also affected several roads in Quezon City as of 4:30 a.m.Gutter-deep flooding persisted along N.S. Amoranto corner Don Jose Street in Barangay Sienna, although the area remained passable to all vehicles.In Barangay Apolonio Samson, floodwaters along Geraldine Street corner Lorraine Street in Parkway Village subsided compared to levels recorded the previous night, though moderate to heavy rainfall continued in the area.However, water levels increased in some nearby streets. Flooding along Antoinette corner Geraldine Court and Geraldine Gate rose to gutter-deep from earlier measurements ranging from ankle-deep to half-knee-deep.At the end of Christine Street in Parkway Village, floodwaters that previously reached tire-deep have subsided, leaving only surface water despite earlier heavy rainfall.As of 5:00 a.m., the Quezon City government has yet to issue an announcement regarding class suspensions.Traffic flow along the southbound lane of EDSA Kamuning remained light, even as moderate rainfall persisted in the area.Authorities continue to monitor water levels across Metro Manila as intermittent rains are expected to continue.
