MANILA — House prosecutor Representative Terry Ridon said on Monday he expects the prosecution to wrap up its presentation of evidence in the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte by the middle of October.Speaking to reporters, Ridon said that under the “adjusted timeline,” the article on alleged confidential fund misuse may be finished by mid-September. “So within this week, puwede pa rin pong magpa-subpoena noon pong mga dagdag pang mga witnesses. Kung babalikan ho natin, during the House proceedings, may mga naisalang din pong iba pang experts, katulad ng NBI expert on handwriting and signatures. So pipinalin din po namin kung isasalang pa ‘yun pong NBI expert na ito na nagbigay po nung testimonya sa House proceedings,” Ridon said. “I think ‘yung adjusted timelines ay middle of September dapat tapos na ‘yung confidential funds. And middle of October dapat tapos na ‘yung kabuuan po ng paglalatag ng lahat po ng mga artikulo,” Ridon added.It is possible that once they establish greatly significant evidence, they could reduce the number of witnesses. When asked about how the article on supposed unexplained wealth may be a heavy one, Ridon said, “Totoo’ yun, pero like what we had seen in this article, in the previous article, kaya naman pong magbawas nung mga testigo kung mapatunayan na po ‘yung kabuuan po ng mayor na kaso noon pong kada artikulo. So I think pagka na-establish na po ‘yung mga ebidensyang mahalagang mahalaga, puwede na hong magbawas nung mga testigo.”Ridon also believes that should defense counsel Attorney Michael Poa take the witness stand, he would be asked about an earlier statement by a Commission on Audit (COA) auditor.This was about Duterte’s staff supposedly asking COA to issue an audit query instead of an Audit Observation Memorandum (AOM) in a September 2023 meeting with Poa and Zuleika Lopez.“I think ‘yung relevant question naman po doon ‘yung sinasabing nagkaroon ng pagpupulong with the COA on ‘yun pong expected po nilang AOM kung saan I think they were requesting an audit query instead. So that has been stated in the testimony previously.
