<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/178823589920320220824-supreme-court-facade-GC-2.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">The Supreme Court building in Padre Faura, Manila on August 24, 2022. <em>George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News/File</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Judicial and Bar Council has invited the five most senior Associate Justices of the Supreme Court to apply for the Chief Justice position to be vacated by Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo.</p><p>Supreme Court spokesperson Camille Ting said Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen and Associate Justices Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa, Ramon Paul Hernando, Henri Jean Paul Inting, and Rodil Zalameda were invited by the JBC.</p><p>Ting noted that since the early 2000s, the JBC has followed the practice of inviting the five most senior magistrates as a matter of courtesy and in recognition of their seniority.</p><p>“What began as an informal practice has since become a standing JBC policy,” Ting said. </p><p>Last August 29, the JBC publicly announced the opening for the application for the chief justice position as Gesmundo will reach the mandatory retirement age of 70 on November 6. </p><p>The JBC advised applicants to submit an online application form and required documents before October 13. </p><div><br/></div><div>          </div>
