Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News </span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday said it would strengthen physical education and sports programs in schools as it sought to provide learners with alternatives to online gaming.</p><p>In a forum in Manila, DepEd Undersecretary Malcolm Garma said the department would strengthen sports clubs, as well as other student organizations focused on music and the arts, to provide learners with outlets for their interests.</p><p>“Physical education is for everyone regardless kung ikaw ba ay athletic or competitive,&quot; Garma said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/8/20/parents-urged-to-monitor-kids-gadget-use-after-school-violence-1243">&#x27;Adults give the cue&#x27;: Parents urged to monitor kids&#x27; gadget use after school violence incidents </a></div><p>Garma said the DepEd was coordinating with the Philippine Sports Commission and the National Youth Commission to strengthen sports programs in schools.</p><p>“Physical education is very important kasi this is where an individual learner would be able to determine ‘yong kanyang kapasidad, ‘yong well-being niya.
