Registration resumes in preparation for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) on December 5. <em>Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News/File</em></span></span></span>MANILA — The House of Representatives has approved on second reading the bill fixing the term of office of barangay officials and members of the Sangguniang Kabataan to five years.</div><p>During plenary session on Wednesday, the lower chamber passed House Bill 10971 on second reading via viva voce.</p><p>The proposed measure also moves the next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections from the first Monday of November 2026 to the second Monday of November 2028, with BSKE every five years thereafter.</p><p>Incumbent barangay officials are deemed to have completed one term due to the two-year extension. Incumbents serving their third consecutive term are ineligible to run for the same position in the 2028 BSKE.</p><p>The bill was amended during plenary session to reduce the proposed three-term limit for barangay officials to just two terms. It, meanwhile, retains the one-term limit for SK officials.</p><div><br/></div><div><br/></div><div>          </div>
