Ni&ntilde;o, Marikina City. <em>PCO/Facebook</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA &mdash; President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. hopes other cities will adopt the solid waste recovery facility in Marikina City as he hailed its waste management system, which helped mitigate floods that persisted in the city for years.</p><p>Marcos Jr. toured the Marikina City&rsquo;s Centralized Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) on Monday, September 7 where he was joined by joined by Environment Secretary Juan Miguel Cuna, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon, Marikina 1st District Representative Marcelino Teodoro, and Mayor Maan Teodoro.</p><p>Marcos Jr. took note of the local government&rsquo;s initiatives through the years including the enforcement of no build zone and deployment of trash catchers along Marikina River. &nbsp;</p><p>&ldquo;Ito ang pinakamagandang halimbawa ng circular na economy dahil nagagamit as much as possible lahat ng mga maaari pang maulit na gamitin ma-recycle ay nagagawan nila nang paraan. At ito ay dapat ang maging template na, nagiging template na ngayon sa lahat ng iba&rsquo;t-ibang lungsod sa Pilipinas,&rdquo; the chief executive told the media after the facility tour.</p><p>&ldquo;Lalung-lalo na siyempre dito sa NCR pero kasama na rin dyan siyempre yung lahat ng mga lunsod na may problema sa basura at hindi nila alam kung anong gagawin, ito ngayon ang naging solusyon na nanggaling sa DENR at ginawang totoo dito sa Marikina,&rdquo; he added.</p><p>Marcos Jr. further emphasized the need for localities to come up with its integrated ecological solid waste management system to help not only in flood management but also in preserving the environment.</p><p>&ldquo;So in the time of climate change, this has become very important. So this is why we are here today and we will continue to broadcast and to make known this kind of technology, this kind of system to all our cities, especially our cities dahil sila may basura problem eh,&rdquo; he said.&rdquo;</p><p>&ldquo;This has to be [in] all the cities and all the LGUs and hope that they will adopt this and that we will find some relief in terms of not only the flood management but also the management of garbage,&rdquo; Marcos Jr. added.</p><p>The facility has the capacity to process 20 percent or 80 tons out of the more than 400 tons of waste generated per day.</p><p>It processes waste into various materials including compost, plastic chairs for schools, eco-bricks and eco-bags among others.</p><p>Apart from its recycling and recovery equipment, the facility has a separate collection system for food waste, used cooking oil, household hazardous waste, healthcare waste, and bulky or special waste.</p><p>With over 225 tons waste diverted per day and 184 tons disposed daily, the facility also employs a centralized garbage transfer system where final disposal of residual wastes are made at the New San Mateo Sanitary Landfill.</p><p>Prior to this, Marcos Jr. also inspected the ongoing construction of the Marikina River Linear Park in Barangay Sto.
