MANILA — Authorities confiscated over 45,000 pairs of counterfeit footwear, valued at approximately P152 million, from a Chinese-operated manufacturing facility in Pampanga, police said Monday. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Pampanga Field Unit executed a series of search warrants during an operation dubbed “Oplan Megashopper” at Global Aseana Business Park 2 in San Simon town. The operation targeted the illegal production of counterfeit footwear.Investigation showed that the counterfeit production ring was operated by &quot;Chongjian,” a Chinese national doing business under the name “Apexel.” The foreigner remains at large. Seized items included more than 45,000 pairs of fake “Crocs” footwear, along with molding plates, raw materials, machinery, sales invoices, and order slips. The total estimated value of the confiscated goods amounts to P152 million. The operation was conducted in the presence of Crocs representatives and local government officials. All seized evidence has been handed over to the Crocs representatives for safekeeping, pending a clarificatory hearing scheduled for February 26, 2025. “The CIDG remains committed to intensifying efforts to combat the production and sale of counterfeit goods, uphold intellectual property rights, and protect legitimate businesses. Those found liable will be held accountable under the law,” said CIDG chief Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III.“This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to uphold the rule of law and protect the interests of businesses and consumers. Counterfeit goods not only undermine legitimate enterprises but also pose significant risks to public safety,” PNP chief Rommel Francisco Marbil added.
