Still recovering from tropical storms Nando and Opong, the Philippines grappled with another natural disaster after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck on Tuesday evening, September 30, 2025.The epicenter, located near Bogo City, caused widespread damage in northern Cebu.Eyewitness videos showed residents scrambling as the quake shook for half a minute, with over seven hundred aftershocks recorded within 24 hours. Collapsed homes, cracked roads, and damaged churches forced many to camp out in the streets for fear of another strong tremor.President Ferdinand Marcos ordered government agencies to act swiftly, particularly in search and rescue operations. The death toll has risen to nearly 70, with dozens still reported missing.Phivolcs urged the public to remain vigilant and have their homes inspected by engineers before returning. Meanwhile, residents and local officials appealed for assistance as they struggled to cope with the widespread destruction.
