<p>MANILA — A minor phreatic eruption of Taal shot up plumes of volcanic material 900 meters into the sky before noon on Monday, the state volcanology institute Phivolcs said.</p><p>Phreatic or steam-driven explosions occur when water is heated by magma, lava, hot rocks, or new volcanic deposits. The intense heat may generate an explosion of steam, water, ash, and other volcanic materials, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). </p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=420&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F1382080986857221%2F&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=560&amp;t=0" width="560" height="535" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>Phivolcs said the Taal alert level remains at a low level one on a 0-5 scale. </p><p>This means that entry into Taal Volcano Island, especially the main crater and Daang Kastila fissures, is prohibited. </p><p>The agency added that it recorded 21 volcanic earthquakes around Taal from 12 a.m. Sunday to 12 a.m. Monday.</p>
