Around 30 residents were hospitalized and more than 200 houses damaged in Bangaga, Davao Oriental after the back-to-back magnitude 7.4 and 6.8 earthquakes that struck the province on October 10.In an interview with Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon, Mayor Laureano “Lary” Taya said many families are still struggling to recover after the earthquakes destroyed their homes.“Ang mga tao namin dito medyo nagkatrauma na sa nangyari na double earthquake… medyo ang mga tao dito hindi pa naka-move on dahil palagi pa rin yung aftershocks sa amin,” Taya said.  The mayor said they will build temporary shelters for residents whose homes were totally destroyed by the earthquake. <div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/10/13/resumption-of-classes-a-challenge-for-schools-affected-by-davao-earthquake-1225">Resumption of classes a challenge for schools affected by Davao earthquake</a></div>Taya said the hardest-hit areas were along the coast, where all coastal barangays were affected and most residents were forced to evacuate.“Actually yung coastal areas namin sa municipality of Baganga, 11 barangays po yun apektado lahat yung 11 barangays. Yung karamihan doon yun ang nag-evacuate sa mga evacuation center at saka yung mga bulubundukin namin dito na may mga roads, dun sila karamihan nagresettle,” he said. Meanwhile, some residents have returned home from evacuation centers as relief operations continue. Taya said local authorities have already distributed aid to affected barangays.&quot;As of yesterday, nakadeliver na po kami ng more than 3,000 packs at may coming pa po from DSWD region na mga 5,000 packs which we are still waiting pagdating dito ngayong araw na ito kaagad idi-deliver namin sa affected barangays,” Taya said.According to the mayor, electricity has been mostly restored in the municipality, though minor power interruptions continue due to local supply issues.Taya said national and connecting roads are passable despite minor cracks found in some bridges. He added that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is inspecting each barangay to assess the extent of infrastructure damage caused by the quake.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/10/11/state-of-calamity-declared-in-davao-oriental-following-twin-earthquakes-1652">State of calamity declared in Davao Oriental following twin earthquakes</a></div>“So far wala namang ganung nangyari sa amin as far as national roads is concerned from Davao City via Mati ok naman yung national road and then there&#x27;s also a road connecting our municipality from Compostela Velley maayos naman din except some minor cracks sa mga bridge which is passable pa din,” he said.Classes are still suspended in the town’s coastal barangays as a precaution due to ongoing aftershocks.
