<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1761311142259thermal.png" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">A minor explosive eruption occured at the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano Friday night, October 24, 2025. <em>Screengrab from Phivolcs&#x27; thermal cam timelapse footage. </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA (UPDATED) — A three-minute minor explosive eruption at the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island was recorded Friday night, October 24, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).</p><p>Phivolcs said the eruption occurred from 8:05 p.m. to 8:08 p.m., emitting a plume that rose about 2,000 meters above the crater before drifting northeast.</p><div><br/></div><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=420&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F806241655372850%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0" width="560" height="420" style="border:none;overflow:hidden;--darkreader-inline-border-top:none;--darkreader-inline-border-right:none;--darkreader-inline-border-bottom:none;--darkreader-inline-border-left:none" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" data-darkreader-inline-border-top="" data-darkreader-inline-border-right="" data-darkreader-inline-border-bottom="" data-darkreader-inline-border-left=""></iframe></div><p>In a timelapse released by the state seismologist, pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) were observed flowing down the southern upper slopes, within one kilometer of the summit crater.</p><p>Phivolcs added that Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 2, which means moderate level of unrest. Public can expect sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruption may occur.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/10/20/minor-eruption-at-taal-volcano-kanlaon-emits-ash-1003">Minor eruption at Taal Volcano; Kanlaon emits ash</a></div><p>Under this alert status, flying of any aircraft close to the volcano or entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) are prohibited.</p><p>Kanlaon also emitted ash twice on Thursday morning, October 23, generating grayish plumes that rose up to 600 meters above the crater before drifting west-southwest. </p><div><strong>RESCUE VEHICLES ON STANDBY</strong></div><p>Meanwhile, the local government of Canlaon City assured that rescue vehicles are prepared.</p><p>In a Facebook post, Mayor Batchuk Cardenas said all barangay rescue vehicles are on standby in case some residents need to be evacuated.</p><p>“Our LDDRMO continues to monitor and coordinate with barangay officials to ensure everyone’s safety. Stay alert and calm, fellow Saltas,” he added.</p>
