Froilan Gallardo, ABS-CBN News/File</div>MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday said it is lifting the gun ban and other prohibitions in the Bangsamoro region that were imposed for the now postponed October 13 elections.In a statement, the poll body said it would remove election prohibitions “inclusive of the lifting of the prohibitions on the bearing, carrying, or transporting of firearms and other deadly weapons in the entire [Bangsamoro Autonmous Region in Muslim Mindanao]” which includes Isabela City in Basilan.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/1/supreme-court-postpones-oct-13-barmm-parliamentary-elections-1708">Supreme Court postpones Oct. 13 Bangsamoro parliamentary elections </a></div>Comelec will also “modify” the calendar of activities on the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections, which, according to the Comelec, would be conducted not later than March 31, 2026.This is in compliance by the Bangsamoro Transition Authority following the order of the High Court, Comelec said.According to the Comelec, these new directives are part of their observance with the Supreme Court’s decision postponing the polls this month.The High Court had declared the Bangsamoro Autonomy Act (BAA) No. 77 and 58 reconstituting parliamentary districts as unconstitutional.It also rendered all issues on the Bangsamoro polls moot and academic.Comelec said they would await the BTA’s compliance with the SC’s decision on the determination of the parliamentary districts by the end of the month.Despite the tight timeline, Comelec Chairman George Garcia earlier assured the public of Comelec&#x27;s commitment to a lawful, well-organized election in March.If it pushes through, the March elections will be the first for the BARMM, which was created as part of a peace agreement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
