Handout/Coast Guard District Bicol</div>MANILA -- Three people were confirmed dead while a three-year-old boy was reported missing after motorboats MBCA Three Seven and Three Seven II capsized off the coast of Aroroy on December 18.The Coast Guard District Bicol (CGDBCL) reported that the vessels were struck by a &quot;Subasko&quot; — a local term for a sudden squall characterized by heavy waves and strong winds between barangays Gumahang and Sawang.While rescue teams saved 34 passengers and 8 crew members, searchers recovered 2 additional bodies on December 19, bringing the death toll to three.Initial probes reveal the vessel departed without mandatory PCG clearance before hitting adverse weather. The CGDBCL immediately relieved the Sub-Station Commander of Coast Guard Sub-station Aroroy to ensure an impartial investigation into the incident.The Coast Guard Aviation Force and Naval units continue to scan the waters for the missing boy.The Maritime Casualty Investigation Team (MCIT) is now on-site to conduct a formal inquiry and recommend safety measures to prevent future tragedies especially this holiday exodus.
