<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1740391110807viber_image_2025-02-24_15-15-47-247.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>After a two-year renovation, the museum aims to serve as an essential resource for education and reflection on the Philippines’ democratic journey.</div>MANILA — The Aquino Center and Museum in Hacienda Luisita, Tarlac, is set to reopen on Tuesday, February 25, coinciding with the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.After a two-year renovation, the museum aims to serve as an essential resource for education and reflection on the Philippines’ democratic journey.Prior to its public opening, the museum hosted a private event for family and friends, led by Aquino sisters Ballsy Aquino-Cruz and Viel Aquino-Dee, along with relatives including Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski. The event featured the theme “Pamana nina Ninoy, Cory, at Noynoy: Laban para sa Kalayaan, Demokrasya, at Dangal ng Bayan,” which honors the legacies of the three. It was also a nostalgic experience for Erin Tañada, a lawyer and former member of the House of Representatives, to see old photographs, particularly those of the funeral procession for Ninoy Aquino, in which he participated.In addition to photographs and articles, the exhibit also features the clothes worn by Ninoy Aquino when he arrived in the Philippines and was tragically shot.The renovated museum includes a dedicated section on the 1987 Constitution, symbolizing the restoration of democratic governance after years of dictatorship. It features an expanded exhibit on President Cory Aquino’s contributions post-presidency and a new wing focusing on Noynoy’s leadership.“Maganda na para mapaalala sa ating mga kababayan yung nagawa both Ninoy and Cory and then also si PNoy, atsaka mabuti na ngayon kasama na si PNoy para at least yung kanyang memorabilia nandito na rin,&quot; said Ballsy Aquino-Cruz,The museum’s design was created by architect Dan Lichauco, who also designed the original facility in 2001.Former senator Francis Kiko Pangilinan couldn’t help but reminisce about his time as a student activist when Ninoy Aquino passed away.“When Ninoy was shot I was 19 years old, in fact yung walang awang pagpatay kay Ninoy ang siyang naging dahilan ng aking unti-unting pagkamulat na maraming problema ang bansa at bilang kabataan na dapat kami ay tumaya, kumilos at yun ang nag-udyok sa akin na maging student leader at activist,&quot; he said. Pangilinan served as the Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization during PNoy’s administration. Coinciding with the reopening is the launch of the photobook “PNoy: Filipino,” which provides an intimate look at Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s presidency. This 200-page book features both published and unpublished photographs, primarily sourced from presidential photographer Gil Nartea, capturing key moments of Noynoy’s time in office.The photobook, developed with the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF), includes heartfelt tributes written after Noynoy’s passing in June 2021.<div>—Reports from Gracie Rutao</div>
