(UPDATED) An engineer couple was among the at least 10 people who died in a multiple vehicle collision near the SCTEX Exit toll gate in Tarlac City on Thursday.

According to Roxanne Alinas, the couple’s sister-in-law, the victims, who were from Bulacan were traveling in an SUV with their two-year-old child. 

They were on their way to Baguio for a vacation.

The family was shocked upon hearing the news but expressed deep gratitude that the two-year-old child survived, despite the vehicle being a total wreck.

"Nakausap namin na parang rescue sa taga-Red Cross, 'yun 'yung sabi parang dead on the spot and then 'yung bata nakita na gumagapang," Alinas said.

"Good thing, 'yung bata himala na nabuhay. Thank you, nagtira si Lord kahit baby man lang," she added.

Alinas mentioned that the family wants someone to be held accountable for the incident.

“Siyempre, ang gusto naming mangyari ay mapanagot, di na maulit. Kasi isipin mo magbabakasyon lang, magkakausap pa kami kagabi, masaya, tapos ngayon bubungad. Sana managot ang dapat managot," she said.
