In a statement, PAL said that while Flight PR2889 (Manila–Ozamiz) "safely landed" at the airport at around 6:14 a.m., it encountered a "nose wheel steering issue" that left it "temporarily unable to taxi to the terminal."

All 161 passengers of the flight were safely deplaned, PAL said. The travelers reportedly waited for around 45 minutes before they were allowed to disembark.

The incident prompted the cancellation of some flights at the airport and a flurry of complaints from the passengers.
