ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal – Nine people were injured after a ten-vehicle collision occurred along Sumulong Highway in Barangay Mambugan, Antipolo City, on Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities said that the incident was reported around 2 p.m., which happened near Francisville area in Bgy. Mambugan.

Traffic enforcer Louie Mataverde said the collision took place when a dump truck reportedly lost its brakes while heading toward Masinag, Antipolo.

The vehicle then slammed into three motorcycles before crashing into a car carrying two senior citizens.

The dump truck continued down the highway and collided with a wing van, on the opposite lane beside an Elf truck.

While the Elf truck managed to avoid direct impact, it hit a nearby post, causing its cargo—bottles—to spill across the road.

CCTV footage from a nearby gasoline station showed that the dump truck collided with the wing van and other vehicles.

Authorities confirmed that a total of nine people—eight men and a woman—were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Among the injured was the dump truck driver, who was trapped in his vehicle for several hours after the crash.

The two senior citizens in the car struck by the truck were reported to be in critical condition.

The massive crash caused significant traffic congestion in the area, as responders had to clear shattered glass, damaged vehicles, and scattered cargo from the roadway.

Antipolo Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) Head Relly Bernardo said emergency teams prioritized removing smaller vehicles and debris to open at least one lane of the highway.

With the help of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the delivery truck and its spilled cargo were eventually cleared, allowing for a stop-and-go traffic scheme and rerouting for vehicles headed downhill.

As of 7 p.m., all vehicles involved in the incident have since been towed to the nearest police community precinct, while the dump truck and the wing van, were cleared from the road an hour later.
