<div>[[PHOTO ALBUM]]</div>PANGASINAN — Residents living in the low lying areas of the municipality of Binmaley in Pangasinan have taken shelter at the Binmaley Community Center due to the combined impacts of Tropical Cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong, along with the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), which have caused widespread flooding, landslides, and major damage across the province.Areas of Pangasinan remain under water following rains by storm-enhanced habagat in the previous days, with the province declaring a state of calamity in 10 cities and towns effective Thursday.Houses on the banks of the Binmaley River were inundated with water from the overflowing river.Residents said the flood began to rise on July 22, four days ago.In Barangay Calit, residents waded through ankle-deep floods on the roads to get to the town proper for supplies. Others report up to chest-deep waters in their homes.Along the Binmaley-San Carlos Road, children still managed to crack jokes while walking through floods.People living in the area lament the lack of proper drainage system, with the property being surrounded by farm land.Binmaley Mayor Pedro A. Merrera III, underscored the need to rehabilitate the rivers and stream systems in order to avoid destructive overflowing of the rivers when storms come.“Noon pagka nagkakaroon ng high tide at umuulan, hindi ganitong uri na bumabaha nang ganitong kataas, ngayon pataas nang pataas,” he said.The province is predominantly a fishing and aquaculture producer, along with its neighboring cities of San Carlos City, Malasiqui and all the way to Dagupan. But heavy siltation has made the rivers shallower and prone to widespread overflowing.The city hopes that the national government will help this cluster of cities in rehabilitating the rivers and waterways.“Sana nga mabigyan kami ng pansin na gawin ang aming mga kailugan, not only in Binmaley, but the entire streams, river system,” Merrera said.“Siguro, it’s a wake up call for us to know what is really happening. And alam ko balang araw, mawawala rin ‘yan.”A total of 10 cities and municipalities in the province of Pangasinan have been officially placed under a state of calamity.According to the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), at least 1,399 families, or 4,636 individuals, have been evacuated from their homes as of 5:00 a.m. on July 24, 2025.These families are now temporarily housed in designated evacuation centers across the province.
