<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/175379632161320200624-kanlaon-volcano-afp.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">This photo taken on June 24, 2020 shows the crater of Kanlaon volcano as seen from the town of La Castellana, Negros Occidental. <em>Francis Fabiania, AFP/File </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA —  From Alert Level 3, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has lowered the status of Kanlaon Volcano to Level 2 to &quot;reflect the overall decreasing trend in the level of monitoring parameters.&quot;</p><p>Alert Level 2 means moderate level of unrest, while Alert Level 3 signifies magmatic unrest or high level of volcanic unrest.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/5/13/stronger-eruption-at-kanlaon-volcano-still-possible-phivolcs-1436">Stronger eruption at Kanlaon Volcano still possible — PHIVOLCS</a></div><p>Following its moderately explosive eruption last May 13, Phivolcs said the volcano showed less frequent volcanic earthquake activity.</p><p>Ash plumes from the summit crater that began October 2024 have ceased overtime, after its last ash emission event on June 5, according to Phivolcs.</p><div><a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=phivolcs+abscbn+news&amp;oq=phivolcs+abscbn+news&amp;gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBggAEEUYOzIGCAAQRRg7MgoIARAAGIAEGKIEMgoIAhAAGIAEGKIEMgoIAxAAGIAEGKIEMgoIBBAAGIAEGKIEMgoIBRAAGIAEGKIEMgYIBhBFGDzSAQgyODIxajBqNKgCALACAQ&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8">Phivolcs warns of lahar flows near Kanlaon volcano</a></div><p>Phivolcs said the short-term deflation of the volcano&#x27;s structure began in the last week of June to first week of July.</p><p>It adds the decrease in degassing at Kanlaon &quot;could indicate a pause in the intrusion of, or depletion of volcanic gas in, magma with the shallower levels&quot; of the volcano&#x27;s body.</p><p>But Phivolcs explained that the lowering of level should not be interpreted that unrest has ceased or the threat of an eruption had vanished, given that &quot;magma has already been intruded deep beneath the edifice.&quot;</p><p>It said people living in areas at high risk to pyroclastic density currents (PDcs) who already returned must be ready anytime to evacuate quickly.</p><p>It recommended that communities within 4 kilometer-radius Permanent Danger one (PDZ) should remain evacuated due to changes of short explosive eruptions. Civil aviation authorities should also advise pilots not to fly close near the volcano&#x27;s summit.</p>
