MANILA -- Around 10,000 policemen will be deployed to secure the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) ahead of its first parliamentary elections on October 13, according to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Nicolas Torre III.Torre said in a press briefing at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Monday that the deployment is part of preparations to ensure orderly polls, alongside the enforcement of a region-wide gun ban from August 14 to October 28, as mandated by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).&quot;Bilang bahagi naman ng paghahanda naman sa 2025 BARMM elections nakapag-deploy na ang PNP ng almost 10,000 na personnel sa iba&#x27;t ibang bahagi ng BARMM at kasabay nito ay based sa Comelec resolution ating ipatutupad ang gun ban at mula August 14 hanggang October 28,&quot; Torre said.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/5/barmm-polls-in-october-to-proceed-alleged-postponement-is-fake-news-1440">READ: BARMM polls in October to proceed, alleged postponement is &#x27;fake news&#x27; -- Comelec</a></div>During the election period, the following are prohibited:- carrying of firearms or deadly weapons without Comelec authorization- employing private bodyguards or security personnel without clearance- organizing reaction forces or strike groupsThe poll body also bars the suspension of local officials, transfer of civil service employees without Comelec approval, and the alteration or creation of polling precincts during the election period.Violators may face one to six years in prison without probation, disqualification from public office, loss of voting rights, and deportation for foreigners after serving their sentence.According to Torre, 94 out of 108 towns and municipalities in BARMM have been placed under the red category or areas of grave concern.Two towns—Buluan in Maguindanao del Sur and Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao del Norte—were already under Comelec control due to security risks.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/8/18/comelec-control-over-buluan-datu-odin-sinsuat-may-be-lifted-spox-1435">READ: Comelec control over Buluan, Datu Odin Sinsuat may be lifted -- spox</a></div>&quot;All the security measures we are implementing are part of our efforts to ensure safe, peaceful, and credible elections in the region,&quot; Torre said.BARMM has long been on the PNP&#x27;s watchlist during elections due to its history of gun-related violence and the presence of private armed groups.
