Nine newly built road dikes under the flood control project collapsed in different areas of Oriental Mindoro at the height of the southwest monsoon on July 23, 2025, according to Governor Humerlito “Bonz” Dolor, citing a report from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Mimaropa regional office.Four of the dikes were along Mag-Asawang Tubig River, another four along Bucayao River, and one at Bongabong River.“Ang total cost ng contract nito umaabot ng almost P2 billion, P1.9 billion ‘yung nag-collapse,” Dolor said.The governor named the contractors allegedly behind the questionable quality of the road dike projects. Their names came from the report submitted to him by DPWH Mimaropa Regional Director Engr. Gerald Pacanan.According to Dolor, the contractors include Sunwest, Inc., St. Timothy Construction Corporation, ADSL, and MLR Construction.“Anim doon sa siyam na nasira  isang contractor lang ang gumawa, anim na project sa Sunwest,” Dolor added.Sunwest and St. Timothy Construction are among the top 15 contractors identified by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as recipients of large-scale flood control projects.The contractors mentioned by Dolor have yet to release a statement.Dolor called on authorities to blocklist and stop awarding contracts to the companies allegedly behind the substandard projects in Oriental Mindoro.“Sana naman yung mga nagkasala dito managot, kung may kontratista dito na pumalpak at hindi sumunod sa specification, bukod sa mabar ito, bukod sa masuspinde, dapat ito tama na huwag na ulit bibigyan ng proyekto,” Dolor stressed.“Masayang may nagpopondo pero tama na ang sistemang ganito, babagsakan ka ng pondo, ilalagay sa isang lugar na hindi naman coordinated sa province, hindi coordinated sa master plan tapos pagdating ng problema kami ang mananagot,“ he added.acanan said in previous interviews that they have formed a fact-finding team to investigate the questionable flood control projects in Oriental Mindoro, but he stopped short of confirming whether the contractors indeed delivered substandard work.
