Clearing and recovery operations continue in Oriental Mindoro following the massive destruction left by Typhoon Opong, as residents and local governments appeal for assistance. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) recorded 39 injuries and two missing persons due to the storm. Seventy-year-old Paulino “Poleng” Saldilla of Barangay Marfrancisco in Pinamalayan town  is struggling to rebuild his shanty, which was destroyed by strong winds. Living alone and with impaired eyesight, Poleng earns a living by taking odd jobs like weeding grass. They are temporarily staying at her sibling’s house. “Naghihintay na lang po kami kung ano maibibigay sa aming tulong,” Rezel said. The local government of Pinamalayan has begun distributing relief goods, with Poleng and Rezel among the recipients. According to the Oriental Mindoro PDRRMO, 241 houses were destroyed while 1,465 were partially damaged in the towns of Bansud, Puerto Galera, Baco, Bongabong, San Teodoro, and Pola. The typhoon affected 43,815 families or 142,044 individuals in the province. Banana and rice crops also sustained heavy damage. Many of the rice fields were set for harvest in two weeks, but farmers’ hard work vanished in an instant.<div> <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/9/26/-opong-batters-oriental-mindoro-2254">&#x27;Opong&#x27; batters Oriental Mindoro </a></div> Shirley Funtilar, who owns three hectares of rice fields said she no longer expects to benefit from her crops. “sobrang laki po ng gastos bago ganyan ang nangyari sa amin paano pa kami makakasustento sa aming mga anak lalo na po nag-aaral pa ,talagang wala na po aabutin ang magbubukid” Shirley said with frustration. The municipality of Pinamalayan is considering declaring a state of calamity. However, Mayor Rodel Magsino admitted that their calamity fund would not be enough to cover the needs of those affected. Magsino appealed for help. “Sa department of agriculture kailangang kailangan  po naming ang assistance  nyo para sa aming mga magsasaka  dito sa Pinamalayan, kailangang kailangan din po naming ng mga food packs  dahil sa dami ng naapektuhan lalo na sa coastal areas na fisherfolks napakarami,” he said. Initial reports from the PDRRMO estimate agricultural damage in Oriental Mindoro at ₱498,446,890.08.
